TURKISH DAY PARADE NYC, MAY 18, 2013
To debut TAU’s opening, a trip to NY to partake in the 31st annual Turkish Day Parade on May 18, 2013 was organized. A group of young Turkic-American leaders from the Washington DC area, Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey represented TAU and their respective Turkic groups and communities. TAU is also happy to announce that it had young leaders of other ethnic backgrounds participating under its banner. By having these young and able leaders march as representatives in the parade alongside numerous other individuals and groups, TAU sought to accomplish the following:
- To include these young adults in the greater Turkic-American community and encourage them to contribute positively to its affairs
- To show solidarity with all Turkic-American groups, Turkic peoples, and humanity
- To empower these young adults to take ownership of their heritage and invigorate their love for the community and world at-large
- To foster a healthy, open environment in which the youth could and was encouraged to freely express their values, individualism, love for the community and their heritage
Ibrahim Uyar (The State of Maryland’s Governor Adviser on Middle Eastern Affairs, Click HERE to see his website) and Ibrahim Andican are gracious sponsors of this endeavor and have invested their hope in the youth to which TAU and its representing leaders are grateful.
