NOTABLE TURKIC-AMERICANS AND THE CHALLENGES IN THEIR COMMUNITY PRESENTATION AT GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY.

TAU and the Institute for Immigration Studies at George Mason University collaboratively held an event on July, 24, 2013 at George Mason University to highlight notable TUrkic-Americans, their accomplishments, as well as the overall problems facing their communities. The purpose of this event was to:

  • Showcase the talents of Turkic-Americans and underscore their effective and influential role and impact on American culture
  • Bring awareness to the issues and challenges affecting the Turkic-American community
  • Provide a brief history on Turkic history, the Turkic peoples’ nomadic patterns, as well as how they arrived in America
  • Underscore the shared linguistic, cultural and ethnic history of the Turkic peoples while highlighting their inextricable relationship with the American people
  • Celebrate the notable and impressive accomplishments of Turkic academicians, inventors, authors, businessmen, and athletes
  • Address misconceptions and the false portrayal of Turkic peoples in the west
